FREE SCREENING: The Kids Are All Right
Jun 15th, 2010 by admin

Hey guys,

I wanted to start your summer off with another music video from me. Mutemath’s Spotlight (which can be heard in the new Twilight movie. Yeah….)

I hope summer is recharging your batteries and you’ve got a chance to relax. I just finished the entire Dexter series, So if anyone want to chat about the season 4 finale of Dexter- send some thoughts my way! Anyway! I have a couple things for you on the agenda:

1. FREE SCREENING from our friends at The Owens Groups on July 23rd for The Kids Are All Right (I’ll be in Scotland, so you guys can enjoy this one without me, Rachel, Shawn, and Sara).  Mark your calendars! (Time and location will be announced later. Here’s a trailer for the film: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi381421337/

The most talked-about movie at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and the winner of the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival, The Kids Are All Right is directed by Lisa Cholodenko (High Art, Laurel Canyon) from an original screenplay that she wrote with Stuart Blumberg (Keeping the Faith). The movie combines comedic surprise with poignant emotional truth in a funny, vibrant, and richly drawn portrait of a modern family.

2. Tim Handorf sent us a fun article on the Top 20 Best College Movies for you guys to check out: http://www.bestcollegesonline.net/blog/2010/20-best-college-movies/

3. Mark Your Calendars for FreshFusion: August 27th from 3:30pm-7:00pm, Plaza and Loch Norse. We will definitely need a couple people to help out and get those eager Freshmen interested in our fantastic film group. I’m thinking we bring our “Audience Choice” plaque to display, a monitor showing our work, photos, and have a raffle for free tickets (possibly given to us by the Owens Group). We can also film the Freshmen coming up to our table and make a little promo afterwards. If anyone else has cool ideas- shoot ‘em to me!

CMF: We won!
May 20th, 2010 by admin

Good news NFS!

Our short film “The Long Way Home” (which is instant viewable below and on our “NFS Member’s Work” page) won “Audience Choice” at the College Movie Festival this year. We hope to compete next year as well against schools like WKU, Xavier, UC Raymond Walters, Cincinnati State, and OCB.

ALSO: If anyone has not done this, please join our Norse Film Society OrgSync page by clicking here: https://orgsync.com/chapter/21431

Not only will we have our events/ updates on our Website and Facebook, but we’ll also have OrgSync (which will combine all of your organizations and will be easier on you!)

Here’s another little treat from NFS to get you ready for summer!

College Movie Festival & Forward Express
Mar 15th, 2010 by admin

TWO MAIN UPDATES:

1. Our Norse Film Society Team is participating in the College Movie Festival this year (courtesy of Chris Strobel). Our team consists of our primary Norse Film Society members who have shown an active interest or participation in the organization and our Executive Producer is Andrew Brown. We will be attending the CMF & SOFA event at the Know Theatre THIS THURSDAY March 18th at 8pm to acquire our genre (which could be anything from Mockumentary, Horror, Sci-fi, Western, Musical, Noir, etc.). We also find out what character name we will need to incorporate into the script and the lines of dialogue and any required props. We will be meeting together afterwards to discuss writers and production.

2. We need members who have shown interest in filming the Forward Express, headed by Alex Leeds, to fill out the Doodle (the scheduling calendar) for your availability this Friday during the day: http://www.doodle.com/participation.html?pollId=rr5qzragtnrcqif2 Members need to be briefed before the production on using the studio by John Gibson. If we can try to make it there a little before 1:00pm- that’d be ideal. (The Norse Media studio is on the 3rd floor of Landrum)

http://www.collegemoviefestival.com/

We will be meeting this Thursday in SU 105 at 3pm to discuss more about the College Movie Festival and hopefully watch some contenders from last year. APPLEBEE’s is afterwards to raise money for The Media Arts Festival- Please come! (You’ll need food before the Know Theatre event anyway)

MOVIE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Richard Swersey: I don’t want to have to do this living. I just walk around. I want to be swept off my feet, you know? I want my children to have magical powers. I am prepared for amazing things to happen. I can handle it. (Me and You and Everyone, 2005 John Hawkes as Richard Swersey)

Here’s a little Voting PSA for your enjoyment. Everyone should Vote!

NFS Week of 2/15 Update
Feb 14th, 2010 by admin

NFS Weekly Update (Beginning of the Week

Student Life is having their “Student Organization Celebration” Wednesday, April 7,

At 5:00pm in the Student Union Ballroom. I’ve RSVP’d for us, it’ll be a good opportunity to draw attention to our organization.  Please let me know if you’d like to attend!

The bake sale is postponed! Sorry guys, we never received confirmation. Austin and I are taking care of the posters tomorrow; we will need help distributing them. If Luke and Austin would be willing, that’d be awesome.

We decided on April 10th for our partnering with Giant Robot Radio at the Mariemont theater in Ohio. The film is Grizzly Man, a docudrama that centers on amateur grizzly bear expert Timothy Treadwell. He periodically journeyed to Alaska to study and live with the bears. He was killed, along with his his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, by a rogue bear in October 2003. It won the Independent Spirit Award fro Best Documentary in 2006, along with many other award

Also, the Cinema Studies Program and World Languages & Literatures department are presenting a Latin American film series Wednesday at 7 pm in the Budig. I’m attaching the information about when/ where for the Latin American series, German series, French Series to the e-mail for anyone interested. We might attend one of their screenings in place of a meeting. It will be brought up at the next meeting.

Shawn proposed an idea on the group page for a forum/blog to begin where we review the movies we’ve watched and put them online (considering many people often have to leave before we can discuss the films). I think this is an excellent idea and we will begin with the discussion board on Facebook and I’ll post them on the website. I’ve already started a discussion on Blue Velvet on the group page. I’ll start one after every film viewing.

We could not film this weekend due to unforeseen circumstances, so we are proposing the idea of having Alex’s film premiere before Evil Dead on Friday. Don’t forget to invite all of your friends to the screening Friday night at 7:00 PM! (Invite them to the event on facebook).
